Greater Manchester weather latest with fresh Met Office warning issued as strong winds on the way

There may be no more snow falling, but bitterly cold temperatures have made it an icy cold day across Manchester. Temperatures are expected to remain below 2C today, with a 'feels like' temperature of much lower.

There was already a Met Office yellow snow and ice warning for large parts of the country, including Manchester. Warnings are in place on January 16, 17 and 18 for either snow and ice or just snow.

Heavy ran to return next week

The cold, dry spell Greater Manchester has experienced this week will be replaced by Tuesday, with heavy rain on the way.

Light rain will be around on January 21 and 22, with the heaviest rain coming on January 23. The Met Office website has details of the full forecast.

It;s going to be icy cold again in Manchester today. According to the Met Office, this is what to expect:

Today

Frosty start with icy stretches possible and freezing fog patches slowly clearing. A dry sunny day follows, though cloud building later in the afternoon. Temperatures slightly higher than of late, but still feeling cold with strengthening winds. Maximum temperature 6C.

Tonight:

Remaining dry overnight but with skies clouding over. A blustery night and coastal gales developing by dawn. Chilly, but less cold than recent nights with only a patchy rural frost. Minimum temperature 1C.

Met Office issue wind warning

The Met Office have issued a weather warning for Greater Manchester. This time, it is for strong winds and will come into place at the weekend.

Icy start to Thursday on the railways

Network Rail's Manchester Piccadilly station account shared an icy photo of a sunny morning on the platform

To keep Manchester Airport moving, there are 17 tractors on hand.

The airport took to social media to remind followers of how they are prepared for the cold weather

The latest on the buses and trams is on the Bee network website.

This reads: "455 services unable to serve Caldermoor, Stansfield and Littleborough stops. Nearest stop for passengers is Littleborough Square. 457 services unable to serve Caldermoor, Stansfield and Littleborough stops."

Details on the Metrolink tram network is as follows: Due to ice on the overhead lines, the Rochdale line is currently suspended between Oldham Mumps and Rochdale Town Centre. Services are currently operating between East Didsbury and Oldham Mumps."

The Bee network added that ticket acceptance is being accepted on the following services: 57, 59, 76, 81, 83, 114, 149, 181, 182, 409, 411 and 415 buses. Northern Rail are also accepting tickets between Rochdale and Victoria Station.
