The New Year Honours list for 2024 has been revealed and it includes several Greater Manchester figures who have been awarded honours for their contributions to society. Each year, the list recognises outstanding contributions in all fields, including science, education, sport, business and the arts. 

Nationally, there are a number of famous faces also recognised for their achievements this year, including singer Dame Shirley Bassey, who has been made a Companion of Honour, and film director Sir Ridley Scott, who has received an upgraded knighthood. Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis and Rochdale-born former cabinet minister Sajid Javid have received knighthoods, and author Jilly Cooper has been made a dame.

Elsewhere, Great British Bake-Off judge Paul Hollywood has received an MBE, broadcaster Tony Blackburn has been made an OBE, as well as singer Leona Lewis. Mary Earps, Manchester United and England goalkeeper, has also been recognised in this year’s list with an MBE and while he may be nicknamed 'Sir Kev', Oldham's Kevin Sinfield has been handed a CBE.
