Some 20 families from Afghanistan and Ukraine are to be housed in Salford under a resettlement scheme funded by the Government. The city council has been asked to provide affordable accommodation for the refugees following an agreement with the Depatment of Levelling Up, Housing and Communties.
Funding has come from the Local Authority Housing Fund which has allocated a total of £750million across local authorities in England for the accommodation of Afghan and Ukrainian households, arriving in the UK via resettlement and relocation schemes. Salford has been allocated an undisclosed chunk of the cash and given a target to deliver 20 homes.

Following the meeting, deputy city mayor Cllr John Merry said: “Salford city council had been asked bythe Government to provide 20 units of accommodation for Afghan and Ukrainian households who have arrived in the UK via resettlement and relocation schemes. ForHousing has committed to buying 15 units for this purpose and Derive will use the Government grant funding to build five units.
