The plans for Bury Market include a new over-sailing canopy to cover the existing outdoor market and make it more attractive and visible
A new flexi-hall that can be used for events and to support well-being, enterprise, education and cultural activities will also be built. More seating areas, greenery and better signage are also part of the plans. A number of public consultation meetings will also take place in January when visitors can talk to the project leads and give their views on the proposals.
These drop-in sessions are on Wednesday January 18, Saturday, January 21 and Friday, January 27, from 10am to 2pm at the Bury Market Hall entrance foyer.

Coun Eamonn O’Brien, leader of Bury Council, said: “The plans for Bury Market are a key part of our unprecedented investment into transforming the town centre. Using council money, plus £20m we won from the government’s Levelling Up Fund, we aim to secure a thriving future for our much-loved market.”
Coun Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and the economy, said: “Bury Market dates back to the 1440s and is rightly described as the jewel in Bury’s crown. With changing times, and shopping habits, it is essential that we make sure our famous and award-winning market is ready to meet the challenges of the future.
“Please take this opportunity to view the plans and give us your views on how Bury Market can flourish for many more years to come.”
