The council’s executive rubber-stamped plans to bring the Fallowfield Loop and Yellow Brick Road cycleways up to Bee Network standard – with safety improvements, better access and lighting.

The Fallowfield Loop line links eight Manchester wards. The Yellow Brick Road line links two.

Improvements will be partially funded by money from the mayor’s Challenge Fund, as well as input from the Manchester council’s budget of £375,000 this financial year and a further £3.341m from the 2022/23 financial year’s capital budget.

Introducing the scheme at the latest executive meeting, deputy leader Coun Bev Craig, said: “I know there’s been extensive work reaching out to the public, to community groups, to residents, having some really open discussions around what people use it for and what it could be better used for in the future.

“It’s good to see the investment that’s going into this. Over lockdown the user-ship’s gone through the roof. It’s great to see, people have told us they want an investment in it, we’ve been able to look at how we can deliver that and there’ll be some exciting plans that will be brought forward in the new year around how that will be delivered.”
