A petition has been launched calling on the BBC to commission a third series of sitcom ‘Early Doors’. The show, set in a pub in Stockport, was created back in 2003.

The first two series of the sitcom have recently been made available again through BBC iPlayer and on BBC 4 on Saturday evenings. The popularity has led to a petition calling for a third series to be launched by fans.

Written and starring Phil Mealey and Craig Cash, who are of course both famous for their roles behind the iconic series ‘The Royle Family’, the series is focused around The Grapes, a pub located in Stockport. Other familiar faces in the show include Mark Benton, Maxine Peak and a very fresh faced James McAvoy.

Support has grown for the petition on social media, with Mealey himself retweeting it. He said: “Please sign the petition and help get a response from the BBC as to why they seem so indifferent to the show despite the (much appreciated) affection and interest there is from various media and the public. Thank you X.”

The tweet has been liked over 2,700 times. It has also been retweeted by more than 500 people, adding to evidence of people’s desire to see the show return for a third series.

At the time of writing, the petition has over 5,400 signatures. To sign, visit the petition page on Change.org.
