Greater Manchester convenience store closed after £3,000 of drugs seized

On Saturday 19 July, police officers received intelligence suggesting drugs were being sold over the counter at a convenience store on Bury New Road.

Officers attended the scene and arrested two males in their 40s who attempted to flee. A large quantity of cannabis was recovered, with an estimated street value of between £2,500 - £3,000, along with counterfeit cigarettes and scratch cards.

This incident follows two previous arrests at the same premises in connection with drug offences. Although no charges have yet been brought, investigations remain ongoing.

On Friday 25th July PC Afzal, the local area officer, successfully secured a full Closure Order from Manchester Magistrates which prohibits access to the premises until 23:59 on 24 October 2025, except for emergency services, the landlord, and lettings agents.

Inspector Gareth Edwards, who authorised the original Closure Notice, said: “The granting of this Closure Order sends a clear message to those who use or supply drugs at this location: your activities will not be tolerated. We are committed to protecting our communities from harm and ensuring Prestwich remains a safe and welcoming place for all.”

He said: “While drug warrants can disrupt criminal activity in the short term, Closure Orders provide a longer-lasting solution. They demonstrate our determination to tackle the root causes of anti-social behaviour and wider criminality.”
