Covid-19: the Greater Manchester areas with the highest infection rates this week

The region’s biggest Covid-19 hotspot has emerged in Stockport - but no cases from the variant have been identified to date in Greater Manchester.

However, cases of Covid-19 in the 10 biggest hotspots in the region have increased compared to the previous seven day period.

The areas with the highest infections, and localities where cases are low can be revealed via an interactive map charting the number of positive Covid-19 test results in each neighbourhood across the country using government data.

It shows the number of infections per local area, broken down into neighbourhoods containing roughly 7,000 people.

The number of new cases is then used to calculate the infection rate per 100,000 people.

Where are the hotspots now?

In the week to 23 November – the latest local data – the biggest hotspot was Marple Bridge and Mellor in Stockport.

It recorded an infection rate of 795.3, with 47 new incidences of the virus.

There were 24 cases more than the previous week, which was an increase of more than 100pc.

In second place is Guide Bridge in Tameside where there were 55 cases and the rate was 779.9.

This was a rise of 31 from the last seven day period.

New Moston in Manchester follows with a rate of 777.8, and 75 cases of Covid-19 being recorded – a rise of 37.

Higher Irlam in Salford is in fourth place with 72 new cases and a local infection rate of 731.1 per 100,000 people.

Next is Blackrod and Butterwick Fields in Bolton, where the 44 weekly cases led to a rate of 726.2.

This was a huge 193.3 pc increase on last week, with 29 more people testing positive for the virus.

Fernhill and Pimhole in Bury is in sixth place.

It recorded 78 new cases of Covid-19, totalling an infection rate of 722.9.

Little Hulton South in Salford had a rate pf 709.9 in the week to November 23, with 51 people testing positive for coronavirus.

In eighth place is another Salford neighbourhood, Lower Irlam and Cadishead, where 74 cases of the virus were recorded.

This works out as a local infection rate of 708.3 per 100,000 people.

Redvales and Hollins in Bury is next with 45 cases, equalling a rate of 678.1.

Finally Ashton upon Mersey North, in Trafford, is in tenth place with 44 cases and a local infection rate of 676.1.

Conversley, Halliwell and Brownlow Fold in Bolton has the lowest infection rate in the region, standing at 81.5 with just seven new cases.

It is followed by Victoria Park in Manchester, with 11 cases and a rate of 84.1.

In third place is the Oldham neighbourhood of Derker, where six people tested positive in the week to November 23.

This equals a rate of 101.6 per 100,000 people.

Rumworth South in Bolton is next with 10 new cases and a rate of 119.

In fifth place is the Manchester area of University North and Whitworth Street.

The 14 cases recorded there convert to an infection rate of 126.2.

Springfield Park in Rochdale follows with a rate of 136.8 and eight new cases of Covid-19.

Kersal Dale in Salford is in seventh place with  a local rate of 137.2.

There were 10 cases recorded in the week to November 23, a drop of 12 from the week before.

Central Reddish in Stockport also makes it into the top ten areas with the lowest infection rates with a rate of 143.9 and 12 new cases.

Alexandra Park in Oldham is in ninth place with 19 incidences of the virus, resulting in an infection rate of 155.9.

Finally Piccadilly and Ancoats in Manchester is in tenth place with a rate of 157.2 from 31 new cases.
