Will you be eating turkey this Christmas or opting for a cheaper alternative? We spoke to people in Manchester to find out if their plans for the big day have been changed by the turkey shortage.

Half of the free-range British turkeys are thought to have bene lost to the country’s biggest ever bird flu outbreak - meaning the cost of the traditional Christmas poultry has significantly risen. The disease has been active for over a year now and has gained pace in the last few weeks, devastating farmers ahead of their busiest period and leading to major culls of the birds. As a consequence, many people may be expected to pay more for their Christmas centrepiece.

Not only is there a turkey shortage, but the cost of food in general has spiralled due to the cost of living crisis. Some people insist on a traditional turkey dinner on Christmas Day, but others might be switching to cheaper alternatives and cutting back on certain festive staples to save the pennies.

We spoke to people in Manchester to find out if they’re changing their usual roast this Christmas or keeping the traditional turkey on the table.
