Football may be the country’s most popular choice and a roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings may be the favoured choice for Christmas lunch - so now a Greater Manchester club has hit on the idea of bringing the two together.

Stockport County is offering a Christmas dinner in a cup to spread festive cheer among fans in the stands at its home ground Edgeley Park. The club is hoping supporters will opt for the miniature version of Christmas dinner alongside other winter football staples such as Bovril.

The dinner in a cup has been created to mark the launch of the club’s County Courtyard fan zone and includes roast turkey, pigs in blankets, mashed potato, gravy, stuffing, and Brussel sprouts. It costs £4.50. Fans can pick up the new festive treat before and at half time of the club’s home game against Gillingham on Saturday (17 December). The fan zone will be open from 1.30pm dishing out wintry favourites including German sausages, pies and Yorkshire pudding wraps.

Jonathan Vaughan, chief executive officer for Stockport County, said: “Fusing Christmas traditions with winter football traditions, Christmas dinner in a cup has been designed to bring some festive cheer to Edgeley Park, adding to County’s already electric atmosphere.

“Created especially for our fixture against Gillingham, fans visiting the County Courtyard will be able to tuck into delicious festive warmer pre-match, getting them ready to cheer on some tasty action on the pitch.”
