Christmas 2022 bin collection dates: When your rubbish and recycling will be collected in Greater Manchester

As with pretty much everything else around Christmas, bin collection will be affected in the Greater Manchester area during the holiday season. And while the changes in the week between Christmas and the new year aren’t massive, collection dates will all be affected.

While some councils in the Greater Manchester area have announced there will be no changes to bin collections over the holiday season. Other councils have announced various changes to different bins.

Finding the correct information for your area can sometimes be a challenge, especially around the hustle and bustle of Christmas. ManchesterWorld has rounded up all the bin collection information from all ten councils in the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to help make the holiday season a little less stressful.

Bin collection dates over Christmas 2022 in Greater Manchester

Bolton

These are changes to bin collection on the week between Christmas and the new year:

• No bin collections will take place on Boxing Day (Monday December 26)
• Green bins or food caddies will not be collected on any day this week

Bury

There will be no change to grey, blue and green bin collections over Christmas. Collection of brown bins will however be paused for two weeks between Boxing Day (Monday, December 26) and Friday, January 6, and bin collection will recommence on the week starting on Monday, January 9.

Manchester

The dates your bins are emptied will change in the week between Christmas and the new year to allow for the bank holidays:

• Monday, December 26 collections move to Tuesday, December 27
• Tuesday, December 27 collections move to Wednesday, December 28
• Wednesday, December 28 collections move to Thursday, December 29
• Thursday, December 29 collections move to Friday, December 30
• Friday, December 30 collections move to Saturday, December 31

Bin collection dates will return to normal from January 1 onwards. To confirm which dates your bins are collected, visit the Manchester City Council website.

Oldham

Anyone who normally has their waste and recycling collected on Boxing Day (Monday, December 26) will have to put out their bins two days before, on Christmas Eve (Saturday, December 24) for collection. Green bins and food caddies will not be collected until Monday, January 2.

Rochdale

According to the Rochdale Borough Council website, there are no planned changes to bin collection over Christmas. You can see when your bins are due to be collected via the Rochdale Borough Council website.

Salford

Bin collection will be carried out as normal in Salford over Christmas. You can check out when your bins are due to be collected via Salford City Council website.

Stockport

No changes to bin collection in Stockport have been announced yet. Keep an eye on the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council website for more information on bin collection in your area.

Tameside

There will be no brown bin collections in Tameside from Boxing day (Monday December 26) until Friday, January 6. If your bins are due on any of the dates below, the following changes will occur:

• Boxing Day (Monday, December 26): Any green bins due for collection will be collected on Wednesday, December 28. Any black or blue bins due for collection will be collected on Friday, December 30.
• Tuesday, December 27: Any green bins due for collection will be collected on Thursday, December 29. Any black or blue bins due for collection will be collected on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
• Monday, January 2: Any green bins due for collection will be collected on Wednesday, January 4. Any black or blue bins due for collection will be collected on Thursday, January 5.

All other bin collections will be collected as normal.

Trafford

There will be no bin collection on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day in Trafford.
