A double-decker bus lost its roof this morning - in a collision with a tree. Pictures show the aftermath of the incident, which took place in Chorlton.

Part of the upper deck appears to have been ripped off, with smashed glass littering the road. Two people were treated for minor injuries at the scene, the ambulance service said.

Onlooker Jessica, 51, spotted the scene - outside the Spread Eagle pub - at 8am on Friday. She said: “It’s a busy time of day. There are two or three schools nearby, but I didn’t see any people who looked like they’d been on the bus. There was an ambulance there but I didn’t see anyone in it. It all looked quite calm.

“It was mainly police. There were about 10 people working on the bus. It’s a crossroads of four streets so the police had stopped all the roads. I was relieved there was no blood and was really impressed with how cleanly the roof came off. You can see top left corner of the bus has hit a tree but I’m not sure whether just hitting the tree had the force of pushing the whole roof off."
