Manchester celebrated the year of the rabbit with the return of the Chinese New Year Dragon parade on Sunday January 22. The Federation of Chinese Associations of Manchester coordinate the parade each year and this time included a 175 foot Chinese dragon, as well as traditional lion and ribbon dancers, Chinese opera performers, 12 zodiac animals and ancient army characters.
You may have noticed the return of thousands of traditional red lanterns around the city to mark the event and on the day of celebration there were live performances, street food stalls and a fun fair in ChinaTown.

However, the festivities are not over, as between January 21 and 29 traditional street food stalls will be up in Piccadilly Gardens and a final performance from the illuminated night dragon will take place to close this year’s festivities at 5pm on January 29.
We went down to watch the festivities during the parade and speak to the President of FCAM to find out more.
