A Manchester man has been jailed for six years and six months for robbing a 44-year-old man of his casino winnings.

Abdiqani Jama saw the man collect his £2,000 winnings at a casino in Manchester city centre.

He approached the man in the casino but was told to leave him alone - however, he followed him out the door when he left.

As the victim was walking down Portland Street, Jama approached him a second time and pushed him in the back before pulling him down to the ground and attacking him.

He punched and head-butted the victim multiple times in a seven-minute ordeal causing his left eye to close with the swelling. He then fled with the money but was caught on CCTV.

Jama, 29, of Jetson Street, was convicted of robbery and jailed on Monday.

PC Ross Smith, of GMP’s Operation Valiant Team, said: “Jama is a dangerous and greedy individual who thought he was above the law when he attacked and robbed his victim.

“I hope this sentence sends a clear message that this type of behaviour will absolutely not be tolerated in Greater Manchester.”
