A Manchester fire crew have been attacked with fireworks whilst attending a fire in the city. Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue service has released shocking footage of the incident which took place earlier this week.

It comes during a week where the fire service has issued advice and safety tips for people taking part in Bonfire Night celebrations. The footage shows multiple fireworks hitting the engine, with one officer forced to go back inside for safety.

The fire service posted on social media to condemn the actions. They said: “All week we’ve been sharing photos of some of our incredible staff to bring the person behind the uniform to life and the dangerous work they do. Our firefighters have loved your support and we know so many of you are shocked that we have to remind people not to attack them. But, as this recent clip shows, it’s a real issue.

“A crew from Manchester Central attended a fire recently and as they pulled up fireworks were thrown at them. You can see on our engine CCTV footage how close they go off to our staff. It’s #BangOutOfOrder we won’t tolerate it.

“Good people of Greater Manchester, we know you’re all better than this, call this behaviour out, speak to your children about it and support all emergency workers so they can do their vital job free from attack.”

The post attracted plenty of comments of anger and disgust from other social media users. One wrote: “It is always shocking to see Fire crews and other heroes of our communities attacked by mindless cretins.”

Another replied to say: “At the end of the day fireworks are a projectile weapon and shouldn't be sold to just anyone off the street, luckily they were only small.” A third commented to say: “Absolutely disgusting and unforgivable. Pray all your crews are safe!”
