An eye-catching pink bus is touring Greater Manchester as part of a charity’s campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer. The BooBee bus begins its week-long tour of the city-region as part of Prevent Breast Cancer’s campaign to encourage people to ‘Be Breast Aware’ and visit their GP if they notice any abnormalities.

The tour began in Eastlands on November 7, and travels around Greater Manchester, with a final stop in Manchester for Cheetham Hill on November 13.

There will be 100 charity ambassadors - most of which are women who have been personally affected by breast cancer - who will be travelling with the bus to share their experiences and spread awareness.

The charity is encouraging people to check their breasts once a month and recognise what is normal for them.

Heather, who beat breast cancer two times said: “If you do find something - even if you’re a young woman and you think it’s probably just a cyst, which it probably is, but nobody knows that - always take action and go and see your GP for referral.

“A couple of months can make all the difference between it spreading further and being a tougher disease to get rid of. Therefore early detection, picking it up, checking yourself and then early action is what’ll save women’s lives.”

Lester Barr, founder of Prevent Breast Cancer, said: “We are dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of attending breast screenings across Greater Manchester. There are a multitude of reasons that women don’t attend their screening invitation, and we’re committed to addressing the issue by learning more and communicating effectively with women of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds.

“As the only UK charity dedicated to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer, Prevent Breast Cancer is passionate about creating a future free from breast cancer.”
