Train journeys around Greater Manchester will be affected in the first week of May. This comes as train drivers union Aslef announces further strike action in the days following the bank holiday weekend.

Action is planned from May 7 to 9, with union members staggering when they go on strike. Given when companies are on strike, Thursday May 9 will see the most disruption in Greater Manchester with Northern Trains and TransPennine Express drivers taking industrial action on this day.

What did Aslef say about the strikes?

Aslef general secretary Mick Whelan said: “Since then train drivers have voted, again and again, to take action to get a pay rise.

“It is now a year since we sat in a room with the train companies – and a year since we rejected the risible offer they made which they admitted, privately, was designed to be rejected.”

What is an overtime ban?

From May 6 to 11, Aslef members will be taking part in an overtime ban. This is when workers will not work any overtime hours and is classed as short of strike action. During this time, some train services may be delayed or cancelled.
