Anthony Horrocks: Manchester man jailed for robbing the same bank twice and holding knife to woman’s throat

A man who robbed a bank in Tameside for the second time in a decade has been jailed for six years.

Anthony Horrocks, 47, of no fixed address, went into NatWest bank on Melbourne Street, Stalybridge, holding a carrier bag with an unknown item inside.

He approached the counter, put the bag against the glass pane and said: “Give me all the money in the till or I will shoot you.”

The cashier handed over £2,720 and he fled following the incident on 20 September last year.

What happened next?

The incident was caught on CCTV and police traced convicted robber Horrocks to an address in Ashton-under-Lyne.

When officers entered they found Horrocks holding a knife to a woman’s throat - threatening to stab her.

He was tasered and arrested and found with heroin and cannabis on him.

Horrocks was known to police - he held up the same NatWest branch 10 years previously and had been convicted of four bank robberies as far back as 2012.

What happened at court?

Horrocks pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, affray, and possession of Class A and class B drugs and was jailed at Friday 28 January at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

Detective Constable Ryan O’Hanlon, of Tameside CID said: “Horrocks is a dangerous man with an extensive history of violent offending involving use of firearms.

“He has been convicted after putting hard-working bank staff through a terrifying ordeal for his own personal greed.

“He has further shown disregard for other people’s safety when he has been arrested by police and has again used violence towards a vulnerable member of the public.
