Amazon has announced it has introduced a fast grocery delivery service across Manchester which will be included within its Prime memberships.

The internet retailer has already been muscling in on the UK grocery market with its partnership with Morrisons.

Now it says it is extending its service, saying that it will usually be able to provide same-day delivery for food orders placed before 9pm.

Prime members in the area can also now choose delivery in a one-hour window on all orders over £40 for a delivery fee of £3.99 (or £6.99 for orders under £40).

The service includes produce from Booths, Whole Foods Market and ‘artisan local producers’.

John Boumphrey, UK country manage at Amazon, said:“We are delighted to bring Amazon Fresh to the people of Manchester today.

“Our customers tell us they love the fast delivery and vast selection offered and we’re looking forward to bringing the service to even more customers throughout the year.”

It comes as the demand for fast home delivery services continues to expand. Deliveroo already offers speedy deliveries in tandem with chains including the Co-op, Waitrose and Aldi.
