Fans of the superfood the açai berry can now get a bowlful of goodness at Manchester leisure and dining destination the Great Northern Warehouse.

Cafe Açai & The Tribe has moved into a location on Deansgate Mews at the popular site to serve its açai bowls along with a choice of breakfast and brunch dishes, smoothies and coffee. The venture was previously a pop-up shop at Arndale Market but has now moved to the heart of the Deansgate area with a menu based around building your own preferred açai bowl. Here’s what you can expect if you head along to Açai & The Tribe and what’s on the menu.

The cafe has relocated from its original location to the Great Northern Warehouse having enjoyed success since its 2021 launch as the first eatery of its type in Manchester.

It is now bringing the berry, which comes from Central and South America and is known for its health properties, to Deansgate at the heart of a menu which has plenty of vegan and gluten-free options on it.

The menu still contains the business’ eight signature bowls and nine fruity smoothies, but also includes new options such as the chance to build your own açai bowls, selecting from regular or cacao açai, vanilla or cacao sea salt granola which is homemade, toasted and baked by owner Alisha Oswell and toppings including fruit, superfoods and nut butters.

The sit-in or takeaway brunch items include PB & J toast with peanut butter, tribe chia raspberry jam, sliced banana and chai seeds on sourdough toast and a banana and dark chocolate loaf topped with peanut butter, banana slices, cinnamon, cacao nibs and agave.

The new menu also offers customisable porridge bowls, where customers can choose their preferred oats, milk and toppings.

There’s indoor seating as well as a kiosk for grabbing and going, and the business is opening to have outdoor seats when summer comes round. The cafe is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday. For those who prefer to stay in for breakfast or brunch the cafe;s menu items can also be ordered via Deliveroo.

What has been said about the new cafe?

Business owner Alisha said: “Açai is a tropical berry that’s high in nutrients and loaded with antioxidants, making it a fantastic breakfast choice to leave you refreshed and keep you functioning all day.

“Açai is incredibly expensive and hard to find in the UK, so we are sourcing our açai directly from the Brazilian rainforest in a mission to make this delicious berry more accessible in Manchester. We also bake our own granola, to keep the final cost down for our customers.

“I love the idea of being surrounded by other independent businesses and like-minded individuals, so the move to Deansgate Mews at Great Northern Warehouse felt like a perfect fit.

“We were inundated with requests for build your own bowls at our previous location, now that we have the space to offer this option, I’m certain that açai bowls will take the city by storm.”
