Spinningfields’ bar and restaurant The Lawn Club served up a winner of a bottomless brunch as Wimbledon fever took hold - offering 90 minutes of unlimited Pimm’s throughout the 2023 tournament.

Guests could select any main and side dish from the brunch menu, plus enjoy 90 minutes of Prosecco, Mimosas, Birra Moretti (and Pimm’s Sundowner Spritz) for £37.50 per person.

On the very last day of the tournament I went along to see just what they were serving up......

As I arrived at The Lawn Club, somewhere I had surprisingly not visited before, despite its prime position in Spinningfields next to The Ivy, I was struck by its cleanliness (no tables needing clearing - result!) and very pretty outdoor-indoor ambience.

A sea of over hanging foliage (not real but hey-ho that’s a lot of upkeep) adorned the clear canopy covering the bar area along with ethereal fairy lights entwined around the wooden pillars - creating a pretty, secret garden vibe. Add to this a large screen covering the game and a table of tasty food and alcohol and it was a winning combination.

I for one, was more than ready to play ball at bottomless brunch - something else I have surprisingly not indulged in before - and found myself feeling slightly overwhelmed in the flow of alcohol as buckets of prosecco and glasses of Pimms and cocktails were set down in front of us.

The Carne pizza was large, super fresh and perfectly satisfying, while the Siracha and lime wings were extra spicy and flavoursome - if a little bit messy to eat. Maybe exercise caution here if you are on a date. My friend’s pizza was like an elevated Margharita consisting of tomato, mozarella, mushroom, peppers, red onion and sweetcorn.

The special Eton Mess dessert was super tasty, if a little lacking in meringue for my liking, and the whole three courses left me feeling full up. Along with the limitless alcohol (We all know Manchester bar prices - right?) and the added bonus of live music, I was more than impressed with the value for money.

I was a bottomless brunch virgin due in part to snobbery - imagining it to be tacky, poor quality and more ‘Wetherspoons’ than Spinningfields - but I was left pleasantly surprised.

The Lawn Club is a pretty, relaxing and upmarket establishment in the heart of Spinningfields and offering three courses with a choice of unlimited alcohol and lovely, live entertainment (a singer with a guitar serving up lots of acoustic indie tracks) for 1.5 hours is great value in my book.

Looking around me as the tables filled up, all I saw were smiling, happy people enjoying themselves and I started mentally planning to return.

The Sunday lunchtime vibe was relaxed, happy, fun but none of the things I can’t bear - no nightmarishly drunk people, no crowd at the bar, no long wait for food or drink and of course, no overpriced bill presented at the end.

And while the menu had been tweaked for the Wimbledon tournament, they operate a very similar bottomless brunch daily - seven days a week - a real case of game, set and match for The Lawn Club.

I will definitely be returning for a re-match - a bottomless brunch well worth making a raquet about.
