Veganuary 2022 has reached the second half and Mancunians who are still managing to stick to their pledge to not consume any animal products for the entire month may be in need of a few new places to eat out.
The annual effort to go vegan for the whole of January has dramatically risen in popularity in recent years, with more than half a million people signing up to try it last year.
And Manchester is a great place to do Veganuary, with a huge choice of plant-based food available.
We previously highlighted nine places to get great vegan grub but couldn’t resist taking another look at the city’s vibrant food scene - so here are five more options for those still going strong this Veganuary.
Purezza’s vegan pizzas have made a huge impression on the culinary scene and even landed an historic victory at the World Pizza Championships.
Following a huge public call the restaurant opened in Manchester to add to its places in London and Brighton.
Anyone wanting to know what all the fuss is about should make their way to Purezza’s High Street location in the Northern Quarter to sample its entirely plant-based Italian-inspired menu including the Parmigiana Party which won National Pizza of the Year in the UK in 2018.
And if you go there during Veganuary and have a four-legged friend you will be able to get vegan dog food courtesy of The Pack.
The kitchen prides itself on bold flavours and unusual combinations and the dishes, which are served small plates tapas-style, can be paired up with complimentary beers and wines.
The January 2022 menu includes the likes of king oyster mushrooms calamari, beetroot orzo and tacos containing soy ‘beef’ and banana blossom ‘fish’.
There is also a Sunday roast.
Milk and Honey
If you’re looking for wholesome and homely eating during the daytime then this community cafe with a 100% plant-based menu has got you covered.
Milk and Honey is located in St Peter’s House on Oxford Road and has everything from yoga sessions to a chaplaincy service on site.
Start the day with brunch including a full cooked breakfast, various options on toast and overnight oats, head in for lunch or enjoy the selection of vegan cakes (many of which cater for people who eat gluten-free as well).
As you can probably guess from the name, plant-based burgers are the stars of the show at this laid-back eatery run by social media sensation Monami Frost.
The Manchester site on Portland Square is the concern’s second eatery, having initially opened in Liverpool.
As well as meat-free patties wedged into buns loaded up with toppings and sauces you can also indulge in a selection of vegan fries and shakes.
This Charming Naan
The restaurant is a homage to The Smiths and serves up a tasty array of curries, a lamb-style kofta burger and street food dishes and they can be enjoyed along with a selection of craft beers.
The musical element of the place comes to the fore in the names of the dishes, which include Girlfriend In A Korma, Love Will Tear Us A-Patha and Some Girls Are Bhuna Than Others.
