According to a recent Telegraph article, Castlefield Viaduct has been named as one of the best National Trust spots to visit in the North.

Originally built in 1892 and made of 330-metre-long steel, the Castlefield Viaduct sits as one of Manchester’s greatest sites.

Built by engineers Heenan and Froude (the same engineers who built the Blackpool Tower), the viaduct was created to carry heavy freight trains into Manchester Central. However, it closed in 1969 and the viaduct has since been given a new life as an an aerial garden which is now open to the public Wednesday to Sunday.

The rustic industrial design coupled with the plants and greenery surrounding it makes for a brilliant photo and viewing spot of the Deansgate area.

Another Greater Manchester site which has made it into The National Trust’s top 3 of the 10 Most Visited National Trust properties is Dunham Massey Hall with around 535,455 visitors between 2022 and 2023.

The hall was built by Sir George Booth in the early 17th century and stands as a beautiful Georgian house with stunning grounds and a deer park. Dunham Massey also previously served as a military hospital during World War I.

It is £17 to visit the hall for adults aged 18 and over and the Castlefield Viaduct is free and open from 10am to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday.
