The last 12 months have been busy for Manchester. 2023 was the year Aviva Studios opened, the year the Bee Network launched and the year a heritage fashion brand came to Manchester for the first time.
But there is no rest for the wicked as 2024 is already shaping up to be a bumper year of international and national events in Manchester, plus some exciting new developments for the city.
One development that we will not be expecting this year, however, is the reopening of our Town Hall. The multi-million pound renovation was slated for a 2024 completion, but it’s looking like we will have to wait another couple of years for that, sadly.
Instead, here are 11 other Manchester events for your diary.

9. Greater Manchester mayoral elections
The elections will take place on 2 May. Current mayor Andy Burnham is set to run for a third term. Other candidates include Conservative Dan Barker and independent candidate Nick Buckley. Credit: Getty | Getty

10. University of Manchester Bicentenary
On 6-9 June, the University of Manchester will celebrate its 200th anniversary with a festival. There will be other events taking place throughout the year. | Getty Images

11. WOMEX
The Worldwide Music Expo, the largest international event of its kind, will be coming to Manchester on 23-27 October. Thousands of musicians from around the world are expected to visit the city for the event, and there will also be plenty of opportunities for Mancunians to get involved.
