13 remarkable Netflix filming pictures as Manchester street is transformed into New York for House of Guinness

A Northern Quarter street has been transformed for a new Netflix drama - to look like New York.

Dale Street is doubling up as Manhattan for the filming of House of Guinness, starring Game of Thrones star Jack Gleeson. Incredible pictures show how crew have been able to recreate what Baxter Street in the Big Apple looked like in the 1800s. There’s shoe stores, hardware shops and boarding houses - recreating the market and slum housing of the time.

The 19th century period piece - set in New York and Dublin - follows the history of the family behind the famous brewery earlier this year. The series - from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight - will focus on the life of Benjamin Guinness, who died in 1868. He was a politician, philanthropist and the owner of the St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin.

But behind the story of wealth and prosperity lies a tragic tale of seemingly endless misfortune for the family, including scandalous affairs and tragic deaths. The personal losses faced by the Guinnesses have become so infamous that it is thought to be 'cursed', despite holding a fortune of over £900million today.

Manchester previously stood in for 1980s New York when scenes for The Crown were filmed there, depicting a young Princess Diana on a solo trip. It also portrayed New York on the silver screen when horror film Morbius, starring Jared Leto, was shot there. It has also played host to several Harlan Coben dramas.
