Judges described this Michelin-star restaurant as an “understated and confident” location which lets the food do the talking.

They loved the Nordic feel to chef-patron Simon Martin’s menus, along with techniques which “let the primary ingredients shine.”

And they hailed his beef tartare, made with 120-day dry-aged beef, along with an exquisite 16-course tasting menu.

The food awards judges liked the ‘smart industrial feel’ to Erst, with its counter seating and views into the open kitchen.

They particularly loved its “selection of small but carefully considered plates” and dishes designed to be shared, including mackerel tartare with cucumber and green chilli, and ratte potatoes with crème fresh and chives .

But they were also full of praise for heartier options such as grilled pork neck with clams and brined kohlrabi tops, and skate with bone marrow, dill and caper sauce.
