Manchester named amongst UK’s top foodie cities- see where it ranked alongside Birmingham, Cardiff and Bristol

Manchester has been named amongst the top 15 best foodie cities in the UK outside of London. The list has been published by hospitality company Accor, and Manchester features in the top five. 

The list has been piece together using Google Reviews and social media engagement. The company also used criteria including Michelin Guide Listings, Popular Food Markets and Popular Food Festivals.

In the final list, Sheffield came out on top with the Scottish capital of Edinburgh coming in second. Newcastle was named third, just ahead of Manchester in fourth place. Making up the top five was Birmingham. 

Manchester was given an overall score of 73, which was calculated including the city’s 11 Michelin Guide Listings. Sheffield finished on top with a score of 99, but the city actually has seven less Michelin Guide Listings than Manchester. 

The summary given by Accor about Manchester reads: “Securing fourth position is Manchester. With an overall score of 73, this bustling capital follows Newcastle in top tier dining experiences after scoring 11 in Michelin Guide listings. Manchester also sees the highest score of popular food markets at 75, pipping all other cities to the post.”

Elsewhere in the overall research, Manchester came out on top as the best city to find Caribbean food. Manchester got a 65% rating in terms of getting this type of food.

Accor’s comment reads: “If Caribbean food is your go-to, head up to Manchester, which has ranked the best for this cuisine with a sentiment score of 65%. With an array of Caribbean restaurants and street food vendors, the city offers an excellent opportunity to savour the delights of the Caribbean.”
