Deliveroo Awards: The 6 Manchester restaurants honoured including Chinese and Japanese favourites

Manchester’s restaurants have beaten off stiff competition to collect six gongs at this year’s Deliveroo Awards. 

Popular burger restaurant Slap & Pickle took home the biggest prize of Independent Restaurant of the Year for the North of England and Midlands. While born in Leeds, it now has a spot at Society as well as others in Sheffield and Hebden Bridge.

Five born and bred Manc eateries also picked up major awards for the best in the region. Burgerism - renowned for their smashed patties burgers - collected Best Burger and American, whilst Chorlton’s Double Zero Pizzeria was honoured for their authentic Neapolitan pizza with the Best Pizza Award.

A Curry Mile favourite - Mughli - collected Best Indian and Nepalese whilst East Asian classics Red Chilli, on Oxford Road and Portland Street, and Unagi Street food, which has sites across Greater Manchester, won Best Chinese and Japanese respectively. 

The awards celebrate the most loved independent restaurants across the UK and Ireland with more than 66,000 votes cast online to decide winners.

Deliveroo founder and CEO Will Shu said: “The standard of finalists and winner for this year’s Restaurant Awards has been incredible. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a number of restaurant owners to hear about their stories, food, and the positive impact they’ve had on their communities.”

There were 60 awards up for grabs across all regions, with the highly converted Independent Restaurant of the Year won by Dublin-based Greek restaurant Yeeros.
