Best restaurant in Manchester crowned at British Restaurant Awards - all the winners including Gordon Ramsey

The country’s culinary elite gathered on 5 September to celebrate the best restaurants and chefs in the country at the British Restaurant Awards 2023, with one popular Manchester recognised.

This was the fifth edition of the prestigious awards, which take place annually and include regional awards, as well as awards for luxury restaurant of the year, best chef, best hospitality team and other categories.

The awards were hosted by TV presenter Cait King, with celebrity guest hosts including Paris Smith from Made in Chelsea and Olympic champion Dwain Chambers.

Only one Manchester restaurant, 20 Stories, went home with an award, despite the fact several had been nominated for a variety of categories. The swish restaurant and bar, known for its stunning views of the city skyline, won the regional prize for Best Restaurant in Manchester 2023.

It would have been a disappointing night for one Manchester restaurant in particular, Adam Reid at the French. The Midland Hotel restaurant, widely regarded as one of the best in Manchester, was nominated three times in the best restaurant, best luxury restaurant and best Manchester restaurant categories, however came home with nothing.

The other contenders for the Manchester restaurant of year include Dakota Grill, mana, WOOD Manchester, Grand Pacific, Sunset By Australasia, Vermilion, 20 Stories, Kitten, Peter Street Kitchen, The Ivy Asia and Erst.

Elsewhere, Peter Street Kitchen was also up in the running for best luxury restaurant, as well as best culinary experience, The Washhouse on Shudehill was up for best bar and One Plus was in the running for best takeaway.

The big winners of the awards included Bleú Steakhouse in Tonbridge, which won best new restaurant of the year, Bocconcino in Mayfair won best luxury restaurant of the year, and 8 by Andrew Sheridan in Liverpool won best restaurant of the year. There were also prizes for chefs as well, with Luke Selby, executive head chef at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire, winning best young chef of the year, and Gordon Ramsey won best chef of the year.
