An award-winning takeaway in Greater Manchester sells Goan-Indian cuisine from the family home. Liv’s Takeaway in Blackley is run by the Dias family, and from Monday to Saturday each week they single-handedly prepare delicious Goan-inspired meals from their family kitchen.

The family business has attracted people from far and wide - including as far as the Netherlands - and Liv’s was even named Manchester’s Best Takeaway in 2022, just a year after opening.

The takeaway opened in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the family said it was difficult to attract customers early on and would often go full days without orders.

Now the phones are ringing off the hook for their Goan-inspired menu and Michael A F Dias and Cefona Gracias e Dias are thrilled to be so busy.

Cefona said: “Starting something new is something that’s hard, you know, you hesitate to do it. But if you do it with determination, with a real will, then I think you can achieve anything.”

We went down to taste-test some items from their menu and speak to the married couple who brought Goan food to Manchester.
