The city of Manchester has played host to some amazing feats of achievement, especially when it comes to sports and music, but is also the home to some bizarre records.
Manchester holds over 200 Guinness World Records, including oldest computer and most valuable football club. The record-breaking body Guinness first began in the early 1950s as a book of facts to settle pub arguments and has now turned into a global brand.
This week, Wigan even played host to the World Pie Eating Championships where the champion Barry Rigby gobbled down a meat pie in a speedy 35 seconds.
With over 60,000 recorded achievements in the Guinness World Records, we’ve taken a look at some of the most bizarre records which have been set in Greater Manchester over the years.
1. Longest Ballet Tutu
The world record for largest ballet tutu was achieved by Prevent Breast Cancer and Stagecoach Manchester at an impressive 86ft long. The tutu was displayed on a Stagecoach double decker bus to raise awareness for breast cancer awareness month.
2. Most toots of a party blower in one minute (team of two)
Radzi Chinyanganya and Greg James set the world record with 78 toots on the set of Blue Peter. The record was set as part of the programme to mark the launch of the Guinness World Records 2019 book.
3. Tallest stack of chairs
The tallest stack of chairs measured 17ft and was built by Jay Ehsan. The chair stack took around 45 minutes to build, with a number of chairs falling and breaking during the attemp
4. Farthest distance travelled to deliver a curry
Jon Wise and James Crisp in Manchester ordered a curry from Christchurch, New Zealand. The vegetable biryani travelled 11,701 miles before making it to the Daily Sport offices.
