The Stables: new canteen-style bar near Spinningfields launches with £5 lunches and dinners

A new canteen style bar serving bargain meals is set to open in Manchester city centre.

The Stables has created an industrial-style, laidback eating and drinking space under vaulted beams on Lower Byrom Street, near the Crystal Maze.

And the new eatery is having a ‘soft launch’ where diners can try a lunch or dinner menu from £5 this Wednesday and Thursday (3 and 4 August).

Early birds can try a chippy lunch (sausages, chips, gravy, cheese, curry sauce, barms and vegetarian options) plus free soft drink or brew, from 12.30pm to 2pm without needing to book on Wednesday and Thursday (3-4 August).

Evening diners can also try two curries on Wednesday (3 August) or two pies on Thursday (4 August) 4.30pm - 6pm, for £8 per person.

The canteen, once part of the old Granada Studios site, will then open fully from Tuesday 9 August, and on subsequent Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for lunch and dinner.

It’s hoping to attract the lunch-break and after-work crowds by offering mains from £8 a head.

Phil Dove, food and beverage director at its operators All Work & Social, said: “We set out to create a casual, canteen-style dining experience and we have truly delivered that with The Stables. With all food served on your tray fresh from the kitchen, accompanied by a well-stocked bar, it is the ideal spot for team mates to meet throughout the day to relax and unwind.

“We pride ourselves on our bespoke catering team who are passionate about hospitality and creating an elevated experience. We take care to source all our produce locally and we are always sure to recognise the city of Manchester throughout our menu.”
