For many high streets in Greater Manchester, regular outdoor markets are becoming a thing of the past. Luckily, there are some beautiful historic market towns within an hour’s drive of the city that are keeping this British tradition alive.
You don’t have to venture very far into the neighbouring counties to find a thriving market town, perfect for a day trip or staycation – from mediaeval Skipton in West Yorkshire to the Peak District spa town of Buxton.

5. Macclesfield

6. Ormskirk
Ormskirk in West Lancashire is famed for its gingerbread and has one of the oldest markets in the UK, having been granted Royal Charter in 1286 by King Edward I. 7. Skipton
