We’re so lucky in Greater Manchester to have so many pretty and historic villages and small towns within easy reach.
You don’t have to travel far out of the hustle and bustle of the city of Manchester to reach stunning countryside, independent high street shops, and lovely walks - some with a good pub and roast dinner at the end. There are also some real hidden gem villages in the area you might not know about.
In celebration of English Tourism Week 2024, we’ve chosen seven lovely spots to explore which are all in Greater Manchester or less than an hour’s drive away.
1. Greenfield
Greenfield near Saddleworth is home to four reservoirs, on the edge of the Peak District national park. You’ll get some lovely views of the nearby valleys if you climb the hills.

4. Rivington
Here you can take a hike up Rivington Pike - one of the north of England’s best viewpoints. The historic tower dates back tp the 12th century and you’ll get some great views for miles, well worth a walk.
