Manchester has an abundance of pubs – from trendy taphouses in indie breweries to historic pubs that have been here longer than any of the locals.
While many of us will settle for a pint of whatever is on tap, there is a growing number of ale aficionados who will only settle for the real stuff. And luckily for them, the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has devised both a physical guide book (The Good Beer Guide) and searchable online directory (WhatPub) that help ale heads discover new breweries and pubs.
One of the things they look out for when assessing UK pubs is whether or not they serve locally brewed ales. The LocAle initiative is a database of all the pubs in the UK that serve ale brewed within a 30-mile radius.
Here are a selection of LocAle-accredited pubs in Manchester, according to the WhatPub database.
