Coronation Street, the UK’s longest running soap opera, has been a breeding ground for some of the best local talent over the decades.
Some of the nation’s favourite TV and film stars started their careers on the fictional Manchester street and went on to become household names.
Here are some of the Greater Manchester-born actors that swapped the cobbles of Weatherfield for red carpets.

1. Millie Gibson
Millie Gibson grew up in Broadbottom, Tameside. She played Kelly Neelan in the soap from 2019-2022. She will be starring in the new Dr Who series as the assistant, alongside Ncuti Gatwa in the title role. The series will air on BBC and Disney+ in 2024. Credit: Getty

2. Rob James-Collier

3. Kym Marsh
Kym Marsh, who went to school in Wigan, started her career in reality TV show Popstars, which won her a place in the band Hear’say. After a brief solo career, she turned to acting and starred as Michelle Connor between 2006-2019. She is currently starring in Waterloo Road.

4. Richard Fleeshman
The Manchester-born actor played Craig Harris from 2002-2006. Since leaving the show, he has had a music career and starred in West End and Broadway shows.
