The 13 Michelin Guide Manchester restaurants with new stars set to be handed out at the Midland Hotel

The latest Michelin stars will be dished out in Manchester at a prestigious ceremony.

The great and the good of the culinary community will celebrate the UK and Ireland's finest cuisine in Manchester on Monday night. The announcement of the 2024 Michelin stars is taking place when the Michelin Guide Awards are held at the Midland Hotel on February 5.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The Michelin Guides, said: "We are honoured to be bringing our celebration of the finest British and Irish gastronomy to the welcoming and ever-evolving city of Manchester. The historic Midland Hotel – a long-standing jewel in the city's architectural crown – is a venue befitting of the occasion."

Currently, Manchester has one Michelin star restaurant, the Ancoats fine dining experience mana. It also has three restaurants with Bib Gourmand status, which are Spanish eatery El Gato Negro, Red Bank venue The Spärrows and Higher Ground, which has picked up a string of prizes since opening in February. Stockport restaurant Where The Light Gets In also has a Michelin Green Star.

The Michelin Guide recognises restaurants according to five criteria (quality of products, mastery of flavour and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef represented in the dining experience, harmony of flavours of consistency between inspectors’ visits), while the Bib Gourmand recognises great cooking at comparatively modest prices and the Michelin stars represent a pinnacle of excellence coveted by chefs the world over.

Here's the 13 Greater Manchester spots currently in the Michelin Guide, with some hoping to join mana in getting a prestigious star. You can watch tonight's prestigious ceremony via a live stream.
