Loved and lost: 12 Manchester shops, restaurants and clubs that closed down in 2022
As we start 2023, let’s take a look at some of the biggest closures of the last 12 months.
It is sometimes hard to keep up with the changes in Manchester city centre. Shops and restaurants are constantly coming and going, and the high street is always evolving.
According to analysis by the Centre for Retail Research, 17,145 shops in the UK closed last year – that works out at around 47 every day. The pandemic has had a hand in some of these closures as businesses continue to grapple with its consequences, and consumers turn to online shopping. At the same time, as with everywhere else in society, the cost of living crisis and soaring energy prices are also taking their toll.
We have also seen several restaurant closures this year, some old favourites and some that came and went along with the pandemic.
Here is a selection of some of the places which shut in Manchester in the last year which we still miss.
