What’s the application process?
The deadline for applications for primary schools in Manchester was January 17, 2022.
Applications submitted after the deadline could reduce the likelihood your child will be offered a place at their first choice school.

How do schools decide who gets in?
If a school receives more applicants than it has available places, the school will use its admission criteria to decide who gets a place.

The criteria is based on five categories.
Places go to any ‘category one’ applicants first, then category two, and three and so on until all the places are taken.
Category One - Children who are or have been looked after by a local authority.
Category Two - Children with exceptional medical or social needs.

How do I appeal if the school isn’t suitable?
To appeal a decision, go to the Manchester City Council websites appeals page, and click ‘appeal a decision’.

The form to appeal should take you around twenty minutes to complete, and includes questions about your child such as gender, date of birth and more.
If you wish for the appeal to be considered before the autumn term, you must appeal by May 20, 2022.
