VE Day 80 celebrated in style at Cheshire care home with vintage tea dance
Care UK’s Long Stone Manor, on Manchester Road, pulled out all the stops to commemorate the poignant anniversary of Victory in Europe, and hosted a 1940s-themed vintage tea dance with a live performance from local pianist Emily Owen, who provided the perfect atmosphere for a dance and a sing-along.
The home was decorated in period style for the occasion, as a nod to the wartime era, and guests and residents also enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea as they reflected on the importance of celebrating VE Day and the community spirit it represents.

The food looked and tasted delicious, and it was lovely to have the opportunity to sing along and dance to the familiar songs.

“My father, Albert Bates, was a Pilot Officer, and on his last journey home, he was shot down and tragically never returned. I was a tiny girl, but remembering my father on these occasions is very important to me.”
Emma Tillyer, Home Manager at Long Stone Manor, said: “Here at Long Stone Manor, we had a fantastic time celebrating VE Day 80 with residents, their families and the wonderful Cheshire community. Everyone was in high spirits as we marked this momentous occasion, but we also took time to reflect on the poignancy of the milestone.
“I’d like to thank the entire team for making this celebration possible and all the guests who joined us at Long Stone Manor for our vintage tea dance.

It’s so important to enable residents to foster meaningful connections with the local community and for us to host nostalgic events that can prompt reminiscence, so our VE Day celebration was a roaring success. We are really enjoying getting to know our Wilmslow neighbours!”
