Taylor Wimpey Manchester has sponsored the Aldwinians Ladies & Girls Rugby Tournament for the second time this year with a £600 donation.

The annual event took place on Saturday 25th May at Audenshaw Park, located close to the housebuilder’s Droylsden development, The Orangery, and was organised by the Aldwinians Ladies & Girls Rugby Union Football Club to celebrate women in rugby.

The £600 contribution to the tournament is part of Taylor Wimpey’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities local to its developments and was used for payment of staff, including referees, physios and first aid staff. The remaining funds will be put towards the creation of female and mixed ability changing facilities at the venue for the upcoming seasons.

Now in its second year, the Aldwinians Ladies & Girls Rugby Tournament 2024 was organised on a larger scale than last year’s event with a DJ and a bouncy castle for the local community and families to enjoy.

As a thank you for the donation, one of the trophies used at the event was named ‘The Taylor Wimpey Plate’. Six ladies and girls teams from the North of England played up to 12 games of rugby, with the Ponteland Tigers securing the Emily’s Cup, Alwinians Ladies winning the Taylor Wimpey Plate, and the Ossett Women taking home the Vase.

Stephen Marrow, a Coach for the Aldwinians Ladies Coaching Team, said: “The day was a huge success and the sun shined all day long. We want to thank Taylor Wimpey for donating towards our event for the second year running, allowing us to organise the match officials and first aid staff with no financial pressure.”

Sam Evans, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Manchester, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Aldwinians Ladies & Girls Rugby Tournament again this year. Women’s sporting events such as these not only help to raise awareness for women’s sports teams, but we also hope they encourage more women and girls to take up sports in the Droylsden area.”
