Northwich care home residents learn history of local bakery from 1800s

Residents at HC-One’s Daneside Court Care Home in Northwich, Cheshire, enjoyed a fascinating afternoon after welcoming Edward Broadhurst for a special talk on the rich history of his family’s renowned local bakery.

Edward captivated residents with stories tracing the Broadhurst family’s baking legacy back to the 1800s. The bakery, established on the site of a former munitions factory on Gadbrook Road in Rudheath, Northwich, became a cornerstone of the local community. The Broadhurst family were very famous in the area for their Dundee Biscuits that you can no longer purchase.

This provided employment for around 500 people and achieving significant success, particularly around the start of World War Two. The session sparked wonderful memories and meaningful conversations among residents, particularly for resident Valerie Robinson, aged 87, who knew the Broadhurst family personally and shared her own fond experiences.

Fellow resident Betty Hunter, aged 99, a close friend of Mr. and Mrs. Broadhurst, helped make the event possible by arranging the talk through her longstanding friendship with the family.
