Lift off for learning as pupils get a visit from the National Space Academy

60 pupils from Star Salford Academy enjoyed a truly 'out of this world' experience as part of a special session run by the National Space Academy.

The galactic group from Year's 7 and 8 took part in the National Space Academy's Space to Learn workshop - an exciting programme designed to use the exciting context of space to inspire and broaden the horizons of the next generation. Welcoming an expert from the Academy, pupils had the opportunity to discover the science, scope and possibilities within the UK space industry and showcase their star power with hands-on learning. Proving the sky is no limit, the space scholars learnt about the fuel needed to fire rockets, before designing their own and using air pressure to propel them. The stellar lesson continued with an investigation into how pressure affects the boiling point of water and its ability to alter objects in space - utilising air syringes and marshmallows in very imaginative ways!

Reflecting on the workshop, Year 8 pupil, Maja Suszczyk said: “I really enjoyed learning the science behind why rockets fly and then making our own.”
