From rock bottom to global reach: Knutsford podcaster inspires thousands through adversity
At 55, Ian Beighton’s journey reads like a gripping memoir—complete with early ambition, crushing setbacks, personal rebirth, and a flourishing second act as a global podcast host. But for the Knutsford-based entrepreneur, it’s not about fame—it’s about stories, resilience, and human connection.
Ian, originally from Leicestershire and adopted at just six-months-old, grew up with dreams of the spotlight.
“I always felt a little different,” he says. “I wanted to be an actor or on TV, but life had other plans.”
At just 14, he started selling door-to-door, quickly discovering a knack for asking the right questions—a skill that would become a lifelong tool.

By 18, he owned his first home. A father at 20, and already forging a high-powered career in London’s print industry with FTSE 100 clients, success came quickly. But in his early 30s, his world collapsed—marriage breakdown, spiraling depression, and a suicide attempt left him physically and emotionally shattered.
“I remember saying as I let go: ‘Almighty Lord, dear God I’ve made a huge mistake, I’m sorry, don’t let me go.’” Against all odds, he survived.
What followed was years of internal battle, shame, and ultimately, transformation. “I looked in the mirror one day and said, ‘F*** this. Ian Beighton, you are worth more than this.’ That was my turning point.”
Now based in Knutsford for the past four years, Ian has rebuilt a thriving career—this time, with purpose. He’s the creator and host of the acclaimed podcast So What’s Your Story, where he interviews guests from around the world—including TV celebrities, world-class athletes, entrepreneurs, and even a former FBI agent—about the moment life tested them most, and how they fought back.

With 110 episodes and counting, his podcast has been heard in 74 countries, with thousands tuning in weekly. A newly launched YouTube channel is already approaching 1,000 subscribers and over 4,000 hours of watched content.
Past guests have included The Tinder Swindler’s Cecile Fjelhoy, The Apprentice’s Linda Plant, the UK’s #1 social media dentist Dr. Milad Shadrooh, and Leanne Brown from The Real Housewives of Cheshire.
Topics span from suicide prevention, adoption, and ADHD to entrepreneurship and menopause. “I want to get to the point in everyone’s story where it nearly all fell apart,” says Beighton. “Because that’s the part people can connect to. And I’ve lived it too.”
Now a well-respected voice in the mental health and well-being space, Ian is proving that from the darkest moments, light can emerge.
“Everyone’s got a story. You just have to ask the right question.”
