Didgeridoo delight as homecare hero wins national talent show final

On Thursday evening, Birmingham’s Crescent Theatre buzzed with excitement as Chester homecare hero Will Anderson took centre stage.

The Home Instead carer, who moved to the UK from Australia to Chester just four months ago, wowed everyone with a heartfelt, powerful rendition of Heartbreak Hotel – winning over judges and audience alike and taking home the Homecare’s Got Talent (HCGT) 2025 crown.

“Winning was such an emotional moment,” said Will. “I couldn’t believe it when they called my name – I was completely stunned! It was an amazing feeling, but I also felt like the award belonged to everyone on stage. Every single performer was so talented and could have easily taken the win. It’s incredible to see just how much talent there is among care workers.”

After a tough round of semi-finals, 12 finalists from all over the country came together for the grand finale of the UK’s most heartwarming talent show for care workers. From impressive vocals to slick dance routines, the night celebrated the amazing creativity and individuality of the nation’s care heroes – proving their talents go far beyond their day jobs.

For Will, music has always been at the heart of his life – and that passion clearly shone on stage. He started playing the didgeridoo at the age of 12, learning from Aboriginal teachers in Australia, and has long believed in the power of performance to bring people together – a belief that inspired and captivated everyone at the final.

“I love how music connects people, which is why I’ve enjoyed HCGT so much,” he explained. “It’s been brilliant to meet like-minded carers, connect with people who share similar experiences and celebrate everyone’s talents.”

The judging panel added extra sparkle to the night. Married at First Sight star Matt Jameson returned from last year’s competition, while new faces included Republica’s Saffron, EastEnders actor John Partridge, The Voice UK’s Kuill and ITV News anchor Sameena Ali-Khan – all of whom were impressed by the exceptional standard of this year’s performances.

Dan Archer, CEO of Visiting Angels UK and organiser of HCGT, said: “Will was an exceptional winner, but every performer on that stage showed the heart, passion and dedication of the care sector. The event not only brings people together but also highlights the incredible people who give so much every day, celebrating their achievements in a joyful and inspiring way. Seeing the pride and happiness on their faces is a powerful reminder of why recognising and celebrating care workers matters so much.”

On Will’s win, Mike and Cath Chalton, Franchise Owners of Home Instead Chester, added: “We are absolutely delighted to say a huge well done to Will on winning HCGT. Will is not only incredibly talented but also an amazing carer, who goes above and beyond every day for his clients.

"We’ve always known that we have the best Care Professionals in the business, and now we also know just how talented they are too! We are so proud of Will and equally proud of our whole team, who continue to show such dedication, care and passion. This recognition is so well deserved, and we couldn’t be happier for Will.”

The HCGT crown has already sparked new ambitions for Will. “I’ve written a few songs and can’t wait to see where my music takes me next. Recording an EP is the plan, and this prize will help me do that. It feels amazing to have so much support – from my family, my colleagues at Home Instead and everyone involved in HCGT,” he said.

Headline sponsors Prezzee supported the event, alongside Jelly Drops and fellow supporters Lottie, Domus, Bullerwell Insurance, SM92, Whzan and the AA. Thanks to their generosity, all proceeds from the final will be donated to the Care Workers’ Charity.

Supporting brands included Visiting Angels, Radfield Home Care, Home Instead, Sylvian Care, Apollo Care, Care Your Way, City & County Healthcare Group, Bluebird Care, Caremark, Heritage Healthcare, Percurra, Walfinch, Guardian Angel Carers, SureCare, Clarity Homecare, Right at Home and Promedica24.
