Children's playground is a hop, step and jump closer thanks to generous donation

A revitalised new playground for children at St Catherine’s CE Primary School in Bolton is a step closer to being realised, after a generous donation from leading homebuilder, Morris Homes.

Morris Homes has been working with the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to support its plans for an upgrade to the existing playground and has donated £400. This has funded a 45ft inflatable assault course and 10ft inflatable slide for children to enjoy at the Summer Fayre on 5 July.

Ticket sales from the inflatables will help fund the playground upgrade, as well as providing short-term support for activities, such as the school Christmas parties and the provision of books for the playground’s reading corner.

Rebecca Thaell, member of the St Catherine’s CE Primary School PTA, said: “The support of businesses working in our local area is invaluable and the Morris Homes donation will make a considerable impact on our fundraising total for the key stage one playground upgrades.

“Once our fundraising target has been met, we are hoping to provide the school with a range of open-ended play equipment that includes modular building blocks. These are great for imaginative, independent play and encourages children to get creative, building forts, climbing structures and towers – the options are endless.

“The efforts of the community to support our plans for the playground are never unnoticed and we thank everyone who works incredibly hard to provide donations to our fundraising pot. It’s all worthwhile when you see the delight on the children’s faces as we unveil new additions to the playground.”

The St Catherine’s CE Primary School PTA was recently able to install a trim trail in the junior playground thanks to its 22/23 fundraising efforts.

Rachel MacCutchan, sales director, Morris Homes said: “The plans for the playground upgrade will provide creative, rich play environments for the young people living on or nearby the Rivington Chase regeneration project and for us, it was an easy decision to provide support and help make this happen.

“We embrace many opportunities to support the communities local to our developments and this project is a great example of how business and local people can come together to make a lasting difference and have a tangible impact on the community.

“We understand how important quality play is for children and young people’s education – particularly in the early years settings - and very much look forward to the unveiling of the new playground equipment at the school.”

Morris Homes recently launched its Rivington Park development, located just off Station Road in Horwich. On completion, the well-connected vibrant new community will include 444 high quality, energy efficient new homes and comprise a selection of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties.
