Bolton golfer completes 72 holes in one day for Parkinson’s UK to honour his late uncle

Joshua Polding, 30, from Bromley Cross, Bolton recently completed 72 holes of golf in a single day to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson's UK.

He undertook the challenge on 24 June at Turton Golf Club as a touching tribute to his late uncle, who had Parkinson's, and has raised over £2,200 to date.

Joshua said:

"My uncle meant so much to me. Completing this challenge in his honour was my way of turning loss into action and supporting a cause that is crucial to so many families, including my own."

Supported by his father and six friends from his golf club, Joshua navigated a physically demanding day, pushing through fatigue and soreness with unwavering determination. He continued:

"It was tough, but knowing I was making a difference kept me going. The support from my community and loved ones was incredible and fueled my determination to complete all 72 holes.

"I trained hard and stayed focused on the goal. Every step and every hole completed was a tribute to my uncle's memory and a step towards supporting Parkinson's UK."

The fundraiser has had enormous support from Joshua's community, with generous donations pouring in to support Parkinson's UK. Joshua explained:

"I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of support. Every contribution brings us closer to advancements in Parkinson's research and supports those affected by this condition."

Inspired by his uncle's legacy and the overwhelming support from his community, Joshua plans to continue advocating for Parkinson's UK and raising awareness for the cause.

David Steele, Community Fundraiser for the North West & Isle of Man at Parkinson’s UK, said:

"We applaud Joshua for his remarkable dedication and achievement.

“With more than 40 potential symptoms, Parkinson’s can devastate lives. We’ve made huge breakthroughs in the last 50 years, but there is still no cure and current treatments are not good enough.

“We hope that Joshua’s fundraising challenge inspires you to get involved with Parkinson’s UK. There are lots of ways for you to get involved and support us - from volunteering at an event, to campaigning for better services. Without the generosity of people like you, our work would not be possible.”
