Many important buildings - such as former churches and historic halls - have been granted Listed status, which protects them from being demolished or altered, but sadly does not ensure they are properly maintained. As a result, many have become overrun with rot and, in some cases, are in a complete state of ruin.
From abandoned pubs to once magnificent buildings, these are some of the eyesores I would love to see restored over the next 12 months. Let me know which buildings you would like to see tackled by leaving a comment below.

13. 77-79 Mosley Street
This Grade II listed building in the city centre was abandoned for 13 years, but plans were recently unveiled to restore it to retail and office use. | Google

14. The Racecourse Hotel
Located near the former Manchester racecourse, the hotel closed in 2013, reopened briefly, and closed again in 2018 for a restoration that never happened, leaving it derelict. | Google

15. Charter St. Ragged School
A significant piece of Manchester’s social history, this building is listed as a new entry on "at-risk" registers due to potential dereliction. | Google

16. Eccleshall St, East Manchester
This grid of abandoned Victorian terraces near the Etihad Stadium has been derelict for roughly 30 years. Early 2026 reports indicate new hope for redevelopment, but the site remains a "ghost town" for now. | Google
