Popular and long-standing Chorlton bar that's last of its kind appears on the market

The Font in Chorlton is on the market.

The bar, located on Manchester Road, is being marketed by Christie & Co, Pubs & Restaurants. The leasehold is currently listed on Rightmove for £99,000 while it would command an annual rent of £37,000. Net turnover is said to be around £600,000.

It is the last remaining Font bar in Manchester. The Font in Fallowfield closed in 2018 after ten years in the heart of the city’s student area. The much-loved city centre location, home of the famous £2 cocktails, closed in January 2023 after 22 years. Both locations were popular among students for their extensive and affordable cocktail menus.

The Fallowfield location is now independent cocktail bar Handle Bar and the city centre location reopened recently as an Irish bar that also hosts live music and serves food. The Chorlton location is one of the longest standing businesses in the area which regularly hosts DJs, pub quizzes, workshops and other community events.

It is located near several other local institutions, such as the Barbakan deli and the Unicorn grocery. The area is known for its thriving food and drink culture thanks to its wide range of bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes and takeaways.

In the listing, the bar is described as “a well-established and highly regarded independent family owned business, specialising in cask and craft beers alongside a fresh seasonal food offer incorporating both vegan and vegetarian dishes.”

The building includes an indoor seating area with enough space for around 80 people, and an outdoor seating area that has room for 30. There is a commercial kitchen in the basement, as well as a cellar and beer drop.

The Font in Chorlton has been contacted for comment about the listing.
