People heading out and about in Manchester on Saturday night will face some issues if using the Metrolink. This comes as Transport for Greater Manchester announced changes in services to allow for a 10 metre stretch of track to be replaced.

The timetable change will come into effect at 5pm on Saturday April 6. The changes will be made to three Metrolink lines across Greater Manchester.

TfGM have said that the work has been scheduled to minimise travel disruption to big events, including Manchester United v Liverpool at Old Trafford. This game kicks off at 3.30pm on April 7.

Replacement buses will be provided for passengers travelling from Victoria to Piccadilly, and Piccadilly to Cornbrook, whilst all other services will operate as normal. Once the work has completed, all services will operate to regular Sunday timetables from the start of service at 6am.

Danny Vaughan, TfGM’s Head of Metrolink, said: “Since identifying the rail defect we have moved quickly to put in place plans to replace it as soon as possible, and we expect normal service to resume on Sunday. However, there will be temporary service changes on specific lines on Saturday afternoon and into the evening, and I would encourage anyone planning to travel on Metrolink during this time to plan ahead and check our social media channels and website for the latest information and advice.”
